CHARACTERISTICS
Pittura a Calce is a slaked lime based paint, applicable by brush, which is used to paint interiors and exteriors with colour effects typical of antique painting based on whitewash and coloured earths.
It is particularly suited for restoring the facades in historic centres where the technical and aesthetic characteristics of the original paint are to be preserved.
The modern production techniques used and the particular mineral and vegetable additives, improve the workability and duration of the slaked lime.
The essentially mineral composition insures excellent breathing properties and primary resistance against moulds and bacteria.

COMPOSITION
Slaked and fat lime, crystalline calcites, iron oxides and coloured earths such as pigments, special vegetable and mineral additives.

USE
To obtain traditional external finishes, particular on facades of a historical-artistic interest and interiors, when good breathing properties and sanitising action are required given the bacteriostatic nature of lime.

PREPARATION OF THE BASE
Carefully brush and dust the substrate, completely removing existing paint with synthetic binders, for particularly dirty exterior facades or those with moulds and alga, pressurised water cleaning is indispensable.
Any touching up or puttying of the plaster needs to be done with lime based products, avoiding the use of primarily cement based mortars, putties or smoothers.
Not suitable for gypsum bases.
On extremely absorbent or powdery bases, application of a coat of our PRIMER MINERAL s. 103 diluted 1 to 1 in water is recommended, to prevent the high absorption from drying the paint too quickly with consequent insufficient holding of the lime.
Film fixatives which decrease product penetration in the base are to be avoided.

APPLICATION
The product needs to be diluted with from 50 to 100% water and applied with a soft bristle brush in two, or even better three, crossed coats. It is a good idea to apply a very diluted first coat so that it completely penetrates the plaster and the two following coats one shortly after the other.
Given the significant water absorption typical of slaked lime products, subsequent protection of the exterior is always advised using our SILATOP COAT siloxane water repellent or IDROTOP - S56 water repellent in water emulsion which greatly increasing resistance to bad weather without compromising the breathing properties.
